ADVANCED 7TH GRADE LAW
Advanced 7th Grade Law builds on the foundation established in 6th/7th Grade Law and takes students to the next level. Designed for students who have successfully passed the Nova Middle Bar Exam, this course challenges students to think and perform more like real attorneys.
Students dive deeper into criminal law, civil law, family law, constitutional law, entertainment law, and tort law, while examining more complex legal issues and real-world court cases. They also gain a much stronger understanding of the Federal Rules of Evidence, learning how attorneys use evidentiary rules to admit or exclude testimony and exhibits during trial.
Mock trial becomes an even greater focus in this course. Students participate in multiple mock trials throughout the year, learning advanced courtroom strategy, witness preparation, direct and cross-examination techniques, opening statements, closing arguments, objections, and persuasive advocacy. Students also sharpen their public speaking, legal writing, critical thinking, and teamwork skills while learning to analyze both sides of legal disputes.
Beyond the courtroom, students participate in debates, legal simulations, and problem-solving activities that require them to think like attorneys and judges. The course places greater emphasis on professionalism, preparation, ethics, and leadership as students begin taking on more challenging legal roles.
Students who demonstrate academic excellence, outstanding courtroom skills, professionalism, reliability, teamwork, and exemplary character have the opportunity to earn an invitation to Competition Law, Nova's elite competitive program, where students represent the school in mock trial, We the People, and other prestigious law-related competitions.
