COMPETITOR INFORMATION
CONGRATULATIONS ON BEING SELECTED AS A COMPETITOR IN THIS YEAR’S OPENING STATEMENT COMPETITION! Please read everything below.
- Please join the competition Remind by clicking this link: https://www.remind.com/join/nmscomp. All important messages throughout the day will be sent via Remind.
- You MUST SHOW UP! Real attorneys are giving up their day to be here for you, so please make sure you are here for them, too!
- This year’s competition will be on Zoom. Please use this link to join the meeting: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/87326811017?pwd=dXlIRGhTLzFTYXZkekl3SkUxZjFqdz09. The Meeting ID is: 873 2681 1017. The Passcode is: NMSLAW
- Please mute your mics upon entering your room. Do not unmute until asked to begin.
- Remember, you must have an opening prepared for both sides of the case.
- You must be dressed professionally.
- Your openings can be three to five minutes long, no more. (There will be a time-keeper and you will be stopped at the five-minute mark).
- Cameras must be on when you compete.
- Change your Zoom name to your full first and last name. The judge’s need your names for their score sheets.
- If you want to use a demonstrative aid, simply share your screen.
- You will be judged on content, delivery, and professionalism.
- Please look at the schedule above. You will see your side (prosecution or defense) and your time.
- You must arrive to the Zoom meeting at least 15 minutes before your scheduled round. You will be in a waiting room until the judges are ready for you. If you are late, you may be disqualified. If the competition runs ahead of schedule, we will take you earlier.
- If you are having technical difficulties, please use Remind to communicate with Mrs. Murphy as soon as the problem happens. We are on a tight schedule and will not have time for many delays. If you tend to have technical difficulties, please get them resolved before the competition.
- Mrs. Johnkins sent an email to all teachers with competitors' names. This email excuses you from class. However, teachers know that you are to return to class if you are eliminated from the competition.
- All eliminated competitors are invited to return to watch the finals. The finals begin at approximately 2:20pm. Again, arrive 15 minutes before the start time. Please show this website to your teachers as your “pass” to watch the finals.
- Have good lighting and frame yourself on the screen well. Use a background that will not distract the judges.
- Present your opening from a quiet location. We will not have time to wait for the noise to go away.
- There cannot be any observers (parents or friends) until the finals.
